Knowing Students

This dimension of the teaching profession involves considering the importance of knowing each student as a learner, person, and member of the community. Specifically, this dimension includes the ability to:

• Articulate the strengths that students bring with them to the classroom.
• Draw on students’ cultural strengths when planning on instruction.
• Connect students’ goals, interests, and experiences to classroom work.
• Show my understanding and application of effective strategies with ESOL students
• Show my understanding and application of effective accommodations for Special Education students.
